The Omer of MANNA Pantry (OMP) is a mission based initiative of the Resource Initiative for Safe Kids dedicated to helping people in general and families with children/youth in particular to alleviate hunger in rural mobile home parks. OMP is nonsectarian, community-focused, volunteer-supported, and committed to the philosophy - "waste not, want not."
MANNA was established in 2008 as RISKids.org's response to a needs assessment conducted by the organization. Our data showed that there are at-promise families living in at-risk circumstances who were running out of food after the 15th of the month. It was discovered that these families simply needed additional assistance to help them stretch their food dollars until the 1st of the month when their regular assistance kicks in.
OMP serves as a niche food cooperative agency within the community to receive and store non-perishable foodstuffs donated to the Central Virginia Food Bank, and to redistribute the food to those who have a legitimate, verifiable need.
